JEBAO OWNER’S MANUAL

MODEL: PU-7W, PU-9W, PU-11W, PU-18W, PU-36W, PU-55W

INTRODUCTION

Jebao UV clarifiers are carefully inspected and tested to ensure both safety and operating performance. However, failure to follow the instructions and warnings in the manual may result in clarifier damage and/or serious injury. Be sure to read and retain this manual for future reference.

The Jebao UV Clarifier is electrically operated and designed to be used with an existing pond filtration system, which normally includes a mechanical and biological filter, filter pump and hose. The unit is designed for outdoor use only.

WARNING: This appliance must be earthed and it is essential that all connections are securely made.

This product is designed to be permanently wired to a mains supply.

A 10mA or 30mA residual current device (RCD) must be fitted to the mains supply.

The clarifier is supplied complete with 5m of 3-core electrical cable. The supply cable of this clarifier cannot be replaced. If the cable is damaged the clarifier should be discarded. The installation must conform to the regulations of the local electrical authority. Do not use the supply cable to lift the clarifier as this may cause damage.

If an extension cable is required, this should be connected to the end of the clarifier cable using a weatherproof cable connector. The joint must be positioned outside the water in a suitable dry housing. The extension cable should be of 3-core, 0.75mm 2 PVC insulated cable (ref H03VVF) and permanently wired to the mains supply with a 3 AMP fuse. The clarifier cable (and extension cable) should be adequately protected from damage by armored conduit.

Electrical products may contain toxic materials such as lead or cadmium. Even so, as a single item this may pose little threat to the environment.

Separate collection also allows materials to be recovered and recycled.

Private households may return their used electrical and electronic equipment to designated collection facilities free of charge. (Facilities are usually available at Local Council waste sites, your electrical retailer or your local authority may provide separate collection from household refuse.)

By disposing of the product correctly you will be providing positive help to the environment.

Do not dispose of this unit with domestic household waste. Used electrical, electronic equipment and batteries must be made available for separate collection.

IMPORTANT-SAFETY WARNING

Always disconnect all appliances from the electrical supply before putting your hands in the water whilst the equipment is being installed, repaired, maintained or handled.

The use of gloves and eye protection is recommended when installing or maintaining the clear glass tube inside the clarifier.

Do not run the clarifier dry.

The clarifier unit is weatherproof but not waterproof and must not be submerged in water. Position the unit away from the edge of the pond to prevent the clarifier being accidentally dropped into the water.

Exposure to Ultra Violet (UV) radiation can cause damage to eyes and skin. Never look at the lamp whilst switched on. The lamp can be checked when switched on by looking at the clear hosetail - a blue glow will be visible when the UV lamp is operating.

To protect from frost the clarifier should be taken indoors during winter months when algae growth stops. Clean and dry the unit and store in a dry place.

Young children should always be supervised near water.

INSTALLATION

To prevent algae growth and green water, the Jebao UV Clarifier should be run for 24 hours a day during the summer season. When the UV Clarifier is used in conjunction with a pond filter and filter pump, pond water should be clear within 2 weeks.

The clarifier can be positioned before or after the filtration system.

The water must be pumped through the unit and not gravity fed.

The unit must be installed horizontally and screwed onto a solid surface. through the 4 holes on the fixing plates. If strong enough the lid of the filter is a suitable location.

CONNECTING TO THE WATER SUPPLY

The Jebao UV Clarifier is fitted with universal hosetails to take 3/4",1", 11/4" and 11/2" diameter flexible hose, When using a larger diameter hosetail, trim off the smaller sections so as not to impede the water flow. Secure the hose to the hosetails using suitable hose clips. Hose lengths should be kept to a minimum length to avoid loss of flow.

FITTING THE UV LAMP

Unscrew the wired end cap anti-clockwise.
If fitted already, remove the UV lamp by gently pulling out of the electrical connection.
The plastic UV lamp capping piece must be fitted to the end of the new UV lamp.
Insert a replacement UV lamp, of the same wattage as the original, by pushing gently into the electrical connection.
Hold the UV lamp and holder vertically and slide the UV unit over the UV lamp. This will prevent the UV lamp (on 36W and 55W units) from disengaging from the end cap.
Keeping the unit vertical, re-assemble the end cap using a clockwise rotation.
Replacement UV lamp capping pieces are available.

The UV lamp should be changed at the beginning of a new season. The UV lamp may look as if it still working but over time the amount of UV radiation diminishes, reducing the effectiveness of the unit.

CLEANING THE QUARTZ SLEEVE

To access and clean the quartz sleeve the unit must be removed from its secure fixing point.
At the rear of the holding brackets bottom of the unit you will find four screws. Remove only the two screws nearest the electrical connection.
Pull firmly on the unit either side of the bracket and the unit will split in two, exposing the UV quartz sleeve.
Clean the quartz sleeve and refit. Ensure that the assembly lug is aligned correctly.

In the unlikely event that the quartz sleeve is broken a replacement quartz sleeve must be obtained from your retailer.
The quartz sleeve is a push but tight fit into the sub assembly and protective gloves must be used when removing and fitting a quartz sleeve.
A small amount of vaseline should be applied to the rubber seal when re-assembling.

WARRANTY

This product is guaranteed for a period of 1 year from the date of purchase for material or manufacturing defects.
The guarantee covers the substitution of defective parts or replacement at our option.
However, the guarantee is considered void in the case of improper use, improper handling or negligence on the part of the purchaser.
If your clarifier fails please return it to the retail outlet from where you purchased the unit. Please note that you must take your proof of purchase with you.

DISPOSAL INFORMATION

This product must not be discarded with the general household waste. There is a separate collection system, via your Local Council waste disposal site, for this type of product.
