Japaneese matting has been a very popular filter media in ponds for year and is widely use in koi ponds. It has a huge surface area and is very effective at removing solid waste as well as allowing large volumes of filtration bateria to grow on it. The best way to use this is in layer for with thin dividers between each layer to allow water flow. Great for vortex filters, multi chamber set ups or even black box style filters.
